Pirenzepine hydrochloride, also known by the brand name Gastrozepin, is a drug that treats peptic ulcers by inhibiting gastric acid secretion and delaying gastric emptying. |
Uses | Pirenzepine is an M1 selective muscarinic antagonist used in the treatment of peptic ulcers, because it inhibits gastric acid secretion and delays gastric emptying. Because it suppresses neural stimulation of gastric acid production, pirenzepine is used for the management of gastric and duodenal (peptic) ulcers. Most tablets contain pirenzepine HCl monohydrate, although It is no longer available for clinical use in the United States or the United Kingdom. |
